Nr 3909, Central Railroad Station, Stockholm, about 1909

Stockholm C in June 2014.  David A Anderson photograph

A big difference between the 1909 postcard and 2014 is the presence of the statue to Nils Ericson in front of the railroad station.  It was formerly in  Järnvägsparken just to the South of the railroad station until the early 1970s when new Construction for a highway interchange basically covered the park.
Nr 3972, Stockholm, Järnvägsparken, about 1909

The statue of Nils was formerly located in Järnvägsparken just South of the Central Railroad Station in Stockholm.  Nils was a prominent engineer, helping to build Canals and Railways in Sweden.
Nr 3972 detail.

Nils Ericson is the older brother to John Ericsson who worked on propeller designs and is known for the USS Monitor.

The former site of Järnvägsparken is now mostly under bridges and interchanges.  Photo by David A Anderson, June 2014.

Stockholm Utställningen 1897

Some of my oldest Axel Eliasson postcards are painted by the artist Anna Palm (1859 1924).  They are of scenes from the Stockholm Utställningen (Exposition) in 1897.

For more details on the Stockholm Utställningen 1897 see

For more information on Anna Palm see

Since both of these websites are on the Swedish wikipedia website they are in Swedish.  Unfortunately you will not find information on Axel Eliassons Konstförlag, Anna Palm, or the Stockholm Utställningen of 1897 on the American Wikipedia website.

Nr 59. Svenska fiskare.

Card nr 59 is of Swedish fishermen!  The photographer is Alfred B Nilson of Helsingborg and the photo was apparently taken in 1906.  Look at the faces of these hardworking men.

Who is Alfred B Nilson of Helsingborg?
Rut Wiberg used this card in 1907.  Her message to Ester Borgström is simple Heartiest Congratulations on Ester's birthday most likely.  The used stamp has been glued to the card.  Did this happen in 1907 or later?  Even had Rut not written the date on the card we would have been able to date the card to ~1907 because of the design of the back.  It is now divided allowing for a message to be included on the back rather than the front.  This allows for the front to be used solely for the photograph.  Brefkort is written in three languages: Swedish, French and English.
